QUETTA : The sixth All-Pakistan Chief Minister Balochistan Football Gold Cup was inaugurated at Ayub Sports Complex here on Monday, with 81 teams from Balochistan and other parts of the country participating in the tournament.
The colourful opening ceremony was attended by Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries and Member of the Balochistan Assembly Haji Barkat Rind, Secretary Sports Dara Baloch and Director General Sports Yasir Bazai.
In the opening match, Baloch Club Nushki defeated Afghan Club Chaman 1-0.
The organisers said the winner of the tournament would receive a cash prize of Rs3 million, while the runner-up would be awarded Rs1.5 million and the third-place team Rs500,000.
Accommodation, food and other necessary facilities have also been arranged for the participating teams, according to the organisers.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Mr Rind said sports played an important role in engaging young people in healthy and positive activities.
He said such tournaments provided young players with opportunities to demonstrate their talent and contribute to the promotion of football in the province.
The tournament features teams from different parts of the country and is aimed at promoting football and expanding sporting activities in Balochistan.
