KOHLU: Construction work on the Kohlu-Barkhan national highway in Balochistan has been completed, officials said, with authorities expressing hope that the road link will significantly improve travel and commercial activity in the region.
Deputy Project Director Fazal Muhammad Zarkoon told journalists that the multi-billion-rupee project was completed by Agha Construction Company within a record timeframe in two phases despite security challenges during construction.
He said the project faced serious security threats, including an attack by militants in which a Levies force official was killed, but work on the highway continued uninterrupted.
Mr Zarkoon credited the successful completion of the project to the support of the local administration, security institutions and tribal elders.
He specifically acknowledged the role of Azeem Jan Domki, Farooq Aslam, security agencies and tribal elder Rabnawaz Marri in facilitating the project.
According to officials, the highway is expected to reduce travel time between Kohlu and Barkhan and improve connectivity for commuters and traders.
Residents and members of civil society also appreciated the construction company and its workforce for completing the road under difficult conditions, describing the project as an important development initiative for the area.
