Balochistan expands mobile education initiative to remote areas

QUETTA: The Balochistan government is expanding its mobile education initiative through “Kitab Gaari” (book vans) and “Science Ki Sawari” (science vans) to bring learning opportunities to children in remote and underserved areas, officials said on Sunday.

According to official sources, the programme—initially launched as mobile schools—has now evolved into moving libraries, teaching centres and mobile science laboratories aimed at improving access to education in far-flung regions.

The “Science Van” initiative, in particular, is promoting scientific curiosity and practical learning among children in areas where educational infrastructure remains limited.

Officials said the Book Van project is currently active in 14 districts, including Zhob, Qila Saifullah, Loralai, Pishin, Chaman, Quetta, Lasbela, Hub, Gwadar, Jaffarabad, Kachhi, Kech, Jhal Magsi and Nushki. The Science Van is presently operational in Jaffarabad district as a pilot project for future expansion.

Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has termed the initiative a “beacon of hope” for the province’s educational future, saying the government remains committed to supporting innovative efforts that expand access to modern education.

He said the programme is also helping strengthen school enrolment campaigns by encouraging out-of-school children to join formal education.

The chief minister added that such initiatives would play a key role in building a more educated and skilled future generation in Balochistan.
