Urgent Appeal: Water Crisis Deepens in Khail, Kalat

By Muhammad Asim – Khail, Kalat

Through the platform of your esteemed newspaper, and website I wish to draw the urgent attention of the concerned authorities to a severe water crisis affecting the residents of Khail, Kalat. For the past three months, our area has been grappling with an acute shortage of water, which has now worsened dramatically with the onset of the summer season.

The scarcity has reached a critical level. People are struggling daily to access even the most basic water needs—for drinking, cooking, washing, and sanitation. The already limited sources of water have dried up or are under immense pressure, leaving many households without any regular supply.

This lack of water has led to additional health hazards, with an increase in waterborne diseases due to unhygienic conditions. The situation is especially dire for poor families who cannot afford to buy water from private suppliers.

There are multiple causes behind this worsening crisis:

• Poor water management by the authorities,

• Absence of timely planning and infrastructure maintenance,

• The growing impact of climate change, including reduced rainfall.

Despite the gravity of the problem, no significant action has been taken by the local administration or the water supply department. The community continues to suffer in silence.

Access to clean water is a basic human right. I strongly urge the government and local bodies to address this crisis as a top priority. Immediate and long-term steps are needed to restore water access, develop sustainable water sources, and protect the health and well-being of our people.

If this issue is not addressed promptly, it could escalate further, affecting not just current residents but future generations as well.
