Nokkundi : A high-level delegation from Islamic Relief Pakistan visited Chaghi district in Balochistan, where they held an important meeting with Mr. Ryan Mitchell, General Manager of Reko Diq Mining Company (RDMC), to discuss potential collaboration for the uplift of local communities.
The meeting focused on addressing critical challenges faced by residents, including unemployment, food insecurity, limited access to clean drinking water, and the growing impacts of climate change. Both parties expressed commitment to identifying sustainable solutions tailored to the needs of the region.
Following the discussions, Mr. Mitchell and his team accompanied the Islamic Relief delegation on a field visit to Hamai village. There, the delegation observed several RDMC-led community development initiatives, such as:
• A clinic established in partnership with Indus Hospital,
• A government primary school supported by RDMC and operated by the Progressive Education Network,
• A Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant providing clean drinking water,
• A women’s technical training center managed by Hunar Foundation through RDMC’s Community Development Fund.
The delegation from Islamic Relief expressed appreciation for these efforts and described them as promising examples of corporate-community engagement.
To move forward, Islamic Relief Pakistan will conduct a detailed Needs Assessment across villages in the Para Koh and Fan Sediment Community Development Committees (CDCs) to identify priority areas for future interventions. Based on the findings, the organization aims to mobilize funding and resources to launch long-term development projects.
This visit marks a significant step toward fostering collaboration between humanitarian and private sector stakeholders for the welfare and empowerment of underserved communities in Balochistan.
