PFF opens new pathways for girls through SHE Leagues

LAHORE – The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) will launch the SHE League and SHE League Juniors in Islamabad on October 10, creating new competitive opportunities for girls and young women and strengthening pathways for emerging football talent. Both competitions will follow a five-a-side format, allowing players more involvement in the game while developing their technical skills, confidence and match experience. The initiative also aims to identify promising players for future international youth competitions, particularly the FIFA U-15 Girls’ World Cup and Festival scheduled for 2027. SHE stands for Sports, Hope and Empowerment, reflecting the initiative’s commitment to expanding opportunities for girls through football. PFF President Syed Mohsen Gilani described the leagues as an important step towards establishing a stronger foundation for women’s football in Pakistan. He emphasised the need for sustained investment, regular competition and clear development pathways to help talented players progress towards representing the country. Mejzgaan Orakzai, head of the PFF Women’s Department, said the leagues marked the first practical implementation of the federation’s recently launched Women’s Football Development Strategy. She highlighted their role in translating the strategy into structured opportunities for participation and development.

Amul Khan Niazi, PFF Women’s Football Manager and chief organiser, stressed the importance of club participation and consistent competitive opportunities. She said the initiative would help broaden the player base, improve standards and enable more women’s football clubs to participate in organised competitions.

Both leagues will be staged at Jinnah Futsal Grounds, Islamabad Sports Complex, beginning October 10. Through the new competitions, the PFF aims to strengthen grassroots participation, nurture emerging talent and create a more structured environment in which girls and young women can pursue their football ambitions and potentially progress to the international stage.
