Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party to observe Pashtun Culture Day with simplicity

QUETTA : The Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) has announced that it will observe World Pashtun Culture Day on Sept 23 in a simple manner in view of the prevailing security situation in Balochistan.

In a statement issued by the party’s central secretariat, PkMAP extended greetings to Pashtun people living in Pashtunkhwa, other parts of Pakistan and abroad on the occasion.

The party said observing cultural days and preserving the identity of nations was the responsibility of conscious and patriotic citizens.

It said PkMAP had been observing Sept 23 every year with traditional enthusiasm and cultural activities, including exhibitions of Pashtun civilisation, traditions, lifestyle and objects associated with different periods of the community’s history.

The party said cultural gatherings, traditional attire and exhibitions had been used to highlight Pashtun heritage and contribute to the preservation and promotion of shared human cultural heritage in accordance with modern needs.

However, citing the prevailing law and order situation, including insecurity and unsafe highways in the province, the party said it had decided to observe the cultural day on a smaller scale this year.

The statement said PkMAP would continue its efforts for the promotion and development of Pashto, which it described as the historical mother tongue of the Pashtun people.

It said the party would also continue advocating the use of Pashto in education, offices, government, the judiciary and business, besides promoting Pashtun traditions and cultural heritage.
