QUETTA: Pashtun Culture Day will be observed across Balochistan on Sept 23, with cultural and literary events, poetry recitals, seminars and other programmes planned in different districts, Awami National Party (ANP) Balochistan’s provincial secretary for literature and culture Hazrat Ali Achakzai said on Monday.
In a statement, Mr Achakzai said the events would highlight the historical, literary and cultural heritage of the Pashtun people.
He said Pashtun culture was not limited to traditional dress, music and customs but reflected centuries of history, language, literature, traditions and collective values.
He identified the hujra, jirga, hospitality, tolerance, mutual respect and humanism as prominent features of Pashtun culture.
Mr Achakzai said the Pashto language and literature were fundamental pillars of Pashtun identity, adding that Pashtun poets and writers had played an important role in promoting peace, love, brotherhood and humanism.
He said the purpose of observing Pashtun Culture Day was to familiarise the younger generation with their language, history, civilisation and culture and reaffirm the commitment to preserving and promoting the cultural heritage.
He urged the party’s district organisations, workers, writers, poets and cultural groups to make the events successful and highlight the positive, peaceful and progressive aspects of Pashtun culture.
