Zilhaj moon sighted, Eidul Azha to be observed on Wednesday

KARACHI: The moon of Zilhaj 1447 Hijri was sighted in Pakistan, and Eidul Azha will be celebrated across the country on Wednesday, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced on Sunday.

Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Abdul Khabir Azad made the formal announcement at a press conference in Karachi.

He said testimonies regarding the sighting of the Zilhaj moon were received from several cities, following which the committee confirmed the start of the Islamic month.

According to the announcement, the first of Zilhaj will be observed across the country from Monday.

Officials said weather conditions remained largely clear in many parts of the country, while some areas experienced partial cloud cover.

Reports of moon sighting were received from Karachi, Rawalpindi, Lahore and other cities, the committee added.
