: Security forces have killed 49 terrorists in separate intelligence-based operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan, the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said on Friday.
According to the ISPR, security forces, in coordination with police, conducted a series of intelligence-driven joint operations over the past few days as part of the ongoing counterterrorism campaign against what the military describes as foreign-sponsored terrorist networks.
The operations resulted in what the ISPR described as “major successes”, with 49 terrorists eliminated and significant quantities of weapons and explosives recovered.
12 terrorists killed in KP
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 12 terrorists belonging to what the ISPR refers to as Fitna al-Khawarij were killed during intelligence-based operations in Bannu, North Waziristan, Orakzai and Khyber districts.
The military said weapons, ammunition, explosives, improvised explosive device (IED) detonating remotes and motorcycles were recovered from the militants and subsequently destroyed.
37 terrorists eliminated in Balochistan
In Balochistan, security forces conducted 10 intelligence-based operations in Mastung, Mach, Khuzdar and Panjgur, resulting in the elimination of 37 terrorists, according to ISPR.
A significant quantity of weapons, explosive drums and remote-detonation equipment was also recovered during the operations and destroyed, the statement said.
ISPR said sanitisation operations were continuing in the affected areas to locate and eliminate any remaining militants.
The military reiterated that security forces and law-enforcement agencies remained determined to protect the country’s frontiers and continue counterterrorism operations under the government-approved Azm-e-Istehkam framework.
The ISPR statement said the campaign would continue at full pace to counter what it described as foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism.
PM Shehbaz pays tribute to security forces
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also praised the security forces for what he described as successful operations in KP and Balochistan.
In a statement carried by state broadcaster PTV, the prime minister paid tribute to the security personnel and reiterated that Pakistan remained determined to eliminate terrorism from the country.
