QUETTA: The provincial executive of the Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party (PkNAP) has expressed grave concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Balochistan, blaming the federal and provincial governments for failing to protect citizens and secure national highways.
The meeting, chaired by provincial president Nasrullah Khan Zerey, reviewed the province’s political, organisational and security situation, as well as the party’s future political strategy.
At the outset, participants offered prayers for the late Aziz Lala Shamuzi, a senior Pashtun nationalist leader and member of the party’s central committee, and paid tribute to his political and organisational services.
The executive strongly condemned recent incidents of violence, including firing on private vehicles, the killing of several people, including women, and the attack on an coach near Khad Kocha, in which three people were killed. It described the Ziarat and Hanna Urak tragedies as among the most tragic incidents in the province’s history.
The party said the repeated attacks had exposed the inability of the federal and provincial governments to ensure public safety, maintain security on highways and eliminate terrorism.
PkNAP demanded indiscriminate action against all armed gangs operating in Balochistan and southern Pashtunkhwa, immediate measures to secure highways, and independent judicial investigations into the Ziarat, Hanna Urak and other recent terrorist incidents.
The meeting also praised the participation of political parties, traders, lawyers, students, women and civil society in recent protests and shutter-down strikes against insecurity, and reiterated the party’s commitment to democratic and constitutional struggle for peace, rule of law and the protection of national and public rights.
