Quetta : A seminar focusing on the risks associated with irregular migration for Pakistani youth was held in collaboration with the European Research Institute, aiming to raise awareness about the challenges and potential consequences young people may face in seeking migration pathways abroad.

During the event, European Research Institute consultant Zakir Ali delivered an informative address, shedding light on the pressing issue of irregular migration among Pakistani youth. He highlighted that, while the allure of better economic prospects and career opportunities often drives young people to consider moving abroad, many are unaware of the associated legal, financial, and personal risks that can arise from attempting such journeys through unauthorized channels.

“The urge to seek a better life is natural, but it is crucial to understand the substantial risks involved in irregular migration,” Zakir Ali noted. “Many youths end up entrapped in situations where they are vulnerable to exploitation, abuse, and even severe legal consequences, as they navigate unsafe routes and fall victim to human traffickers.”

The seminar addressed various aspects of irregular migration, including the factors pushing young people towards it, the dangers of exploitation, and the difficulties of life in foreign countries without legal protection. Zakir Ali further emphasized the importance of promoting lawful and secure migration avenues, which not only ensure a safe transition but also guarantee the preservation of rights in the host countries.

The event also featured a discussion panel where participants explored possible strategies to prevent irregular migration by encouraging education, skill development, and providing information on legal migration pathways. The seminar concluded with a strong message advocating for awareness programs at the grassroots level to inform youth of the available opportunities within Pakistan and in foreign countries through legitimate channels.

This initiative by the European Research Institute reflects a broader effort to address migration issues and support youth in making informed decisions about their future.
