Quetta :The Balochistan Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution condemning the attacks carried out by banned organizations on the nights of August 25 and 26, which resulted in the martyrdom of security personnel and civilians. The resolution, presented by both the government and opposition, was adopted without opposition.
Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, in his address to the assembly, stated that the dream of an independent Balochistan will never be realized, and Pakistan, as a sovereign state, will continue to exist forever. He emphasized that there is no need for a large-scale operation in the province; instead, intelligence-based operations will be conducted. Bugti expressed concern that violence is being wrongly linked to the pursuit of rights and highlighted that the Balochistan government is sending local girls to Oxford for education while others are being indoctrinated and turned into suicide bombers. He urged the youth to make informed decisions about their future, emphasizing that their destination is not an independent Balochistan, a dream that will never come true. Bugti added that Pakistan will endure until the end of time.
The Chief Minister also pointed out that the confusion surrounding Balochistan’s situation affects all of Pakistan. He stressed the importance of the state, urging people to understand its value by looking at countries that lack one. The government remains open to negotiations within the framework of the state and constitution. He questioned how those who burn the Pakistani flag and wave a so-called independent flag can be considered peaceful. The constitution, he said, does not grant the right to desecrate the national flag or chant slogans for an independent Balochistan.
Bugti criticized the misrepresentation of terrorist activities as a struggle for rights, noting that while the government of Balochistan is committed to providing education to the youth, some groups are leading them towards extremism. He affirmed that the government’s doors are open for those who wish to negotiate within the bounds of the constitution and state.
Discussing the recent attacks, Bugti asserted that the rights granted to the Baloch people in Pakistan are unparalleled. He highlighted that the President of Pakistan is a Baloch, which is itself a significant right. Reflecting on the protests in Gwadar, Bugti mentioned that the provincial cabinet had ensured no women were arrested, despite the law treating men and women equally.
He expressed concern over the growing trend of using social media for anti-state propaganda and noted that this misuse is unprecedented elsewhere. He emphasized the need to call a terrorist a terrorist and cited the Baloch Liberation Army’s recent attacks as an example. He mentioned that the government has implemented a youth policy and put an end to the sale of jobs, ensuring that positions are now awarded based on merit.
Bugti also referenced past negotiations with Brahmdagh Bugti during Dr. Malik’s tenure as Chief Minister, questioning their outcomes. He reiterated that the state must stand firm against terrorism and affirmed that there is no need for large-scale operations, as targeted, intelligence-based operations will suffice. The state will always support the oppressed, he concluded.
Following the unanimous adoption of the resolution condemning the terrorist incidents in Balochistan, the Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly adjourned the session until 3 PM on Friday, September 6.
