Quetta: On the directives of the Federal Ministry of Energy (Power Division), Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) continues its crackdown against electricity theft and defaulters across Balochistan.
On Wednesday, the Superintending Engineer of Loralai Operation Circle, accompanied by the SDO and staff, conducted an operation against illegal direct connections in Loralai city. During the operation at Circuit House Loralai, seven connections bypassing electricity meters were disconnected.
Following the disconnection, staff from the DC Office Loralai allegedly held QESCO staff hostage illegally. Later, the Deputy Commissioner summoned the Superintending Engineer to his office, where Levies personnel reportedly assaulted him and detained him unlawfully for approximately four hours.
In protest, QESCO staff staged a sit-in against the actions of the DC and his team.
Meanwhile, QESCO CEO Engineer Shafqat Ali has urged the federal and provincial governments, as well as the Chief Secretary of Balochistan, to take strict action against those involved in the incident. He also emphasized the need for ensuring the safety and security of QESCO officers and staff during operations against defaulters and electricity thieves, in line with the federal government’s ongoing anti-electricity theft campaign across the country.
