QUETTA: A Defence Day mushaira was held at Government Girls College, Jinnah Town, Quetta, bringing together poets, writers, young people and literary enthusiasts from across Balochistan.
The event was organised by Bazm-e-Saim Adabiyat and Saim Urdu Academy in collaboration with the Youth Affairs Department, Government of Balochistan.
Senior Pashto and Urdu poet Sarwar Sudai presided over the gathering, while Balochistan Assembly MPA Sanjay Kumar attended as the chief guest.
Poets representing Pashto, Brahui, Balochi, Urdu and Sindhi literary traditions presented their poetry. Among those who participated were Sarwar Javed, Ejaz Amar, Tasneem Sanam, Rashid Hasrat, Zahid Dashti and Noor Baloch, besides other poets.
Speaking at the event, Mr Kumar said poets and writers had played an important role in expressing national sentiments and raising awareness through their work. He said literature and poetry could contribute to patriotism, social awareness and national unity.
Director Youth Affairs Sajjad Aslam Baloch said writers and poets were an important part of society and that the department was working to provide young people with opportunities to develop and showcase their literary abilities.
He announced that the Youth Affairs Department would soon organise an All-Pakistan Youth Mushaira in Balochistan, bringing together young poets from different parts of the country.
At the end of the gathering, Tasneem Sanam, founder and president of Bazm-e-Saim Adabiyat, thanked the guests, poets and participants. Awards and prizes were also distributed among participating poets and guests.
The gathering also provided a platform for showcasing Balochistan’s multilingual literary traditions and encouraging greater participation of young people in literary activities.
