LAHORE, : The Centre for Aerospace and Security Studies (CASS) Lahore organised a discussion titled “Redefining Power: Geoeconomics, Technology and Security in an Era of Strategic Competition” on August 19, bringing together academics, intellectuals and experts to examine Pakistan’s economic and strategic challenges.

Chairman Pakistan Revenue Enhancement Forum (PREF) Islamabad Haroon Sharif said Pakistan needed to translate its geopolitical relevance and strategic partnerships, particularly CPEC, into investment, technology transfer and industrial development.
He stressed the need to diversify the country’s energy mix, reduce dependence on imported oil and create employment opportunities for the millions entering the labour market each year. He also called for greater focus on value-added sectors, exports, research and development, technology partnerships and private-sector participation.
Executive Director Sustainable Policy and Research Centre (SPRC) Islamabad Dr Safdar Sohail emphasised linking Pakistan’s geopolitical relationships with economic transformation by converting strategic opportunities into manufacturing capacity, technology partnerships and export competitiveness.
He stressed the importance of development finance, industrial policy, better data and standards, as well as stronger integration of finance, manufacturing and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Dr Sohail also praised the Pakistan Air Force for what he described as its decisive performance during the May 2025 conflict despite financial constraints.
In his concluding remarks, CASS Lahore President Air Marshal Asim Suleiman (Retd) said military power remained essential, but economy, technology and national security were increasingly interconnected.
He emphasised the importance of Pakistan’s geostrategic location, connectivity, digital economy and human capital in achieving sustainable economic growth. Referring to Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu’s emphasis on developing human resources and prudent utilisation of resources, he linked these priorities to the PAF’s performance during Marka-e-Haq.
The event concluded with an interactive session, with participants discussing economic geography, GDP growth and supportive policies as important tools for strengthening Pakistan’s economic and strategic resilience.
