Balochistan Police Chief Highlights Sacrifices, Reforms

QUETTA: Inspector General of Police Balochistan Muhammad Tahir on Friday said that 1,139 police personnel have laid down their lives in the line of duty while maintaining law and order in the province.

He made the remarks while briefing trainee officers of the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) Quetta during a visit to the Central Police Office (CPO). The delegation was led by NIPA Director General Syed Ali Raza Shah.

The IG highlighted ongoing police reforms, including the integration of B-Area into A-Area policing, and said special operations last year led to the arrest of 780 proclaimed offenders, 1,466 absconders and 1,404 criminals, along with the recovery of 26 abductees.

He said the establishment of the Serious Crime Wing had improved investigation of complex cases, while public outreach through open courts and complaint cells was strengthening citizen trust. He added that Safe City cameras were also being used to monitor traffic and criminal activity more effectively.

Muhammad Tahir said welfare measures for families of martyrs remained a priority, while accountability within the force was ensured through both rewards and disciplinary action.

He also noted that police had played an active role in rescue operations during floods, snowfall and storms, including assistance to stranded travellers, and said a women-staffed rescue unit had been established in Ziarat for tourists.

The visit concluded with an exchange of commemorative shields between police officials and the visiting delegation.
