Islamabad on High Alert as Diplomatic Activity Intensifies

ISLAMABAD: Security in the federal capital has been placed on high alert amid heightened diplomatic activity ahead of a possible second round of talks between the United States and Iran, officials said on Friday.

According to sources, security arrangements have been tightened across sensitive locations, including the Red Zone, with additional police personnel called in from Punjab. Transport terminals in Islamabad and Rawalpindi were temporarily closed from 11pm on Thursday as part of precautionary measures.

District administration officials said vehicles already en route to terminals would be allowed to proceed after necessary checks and procedures.

Meanwhile, the White House indicated that further negotiations with Iran are likely to take place in Islamabad, while denying reports of any extension to the current ceasefire agreement.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said “constructive” discussions with Iran were ongoing and Pakistan was playing a key intermediary role in the diplomatic process.
