QUETTA: Senior National Party leader Dr Ishaq Baloch on Monday said his party would oppose any “campaign” against print media and extend full support to journalists and newspaper organisations.
He expressed these views while speaking to a delegation of print media representatives led by Syed Anwar Shah. Dr Nashanas Lehri and Sardar Shah Zaman Pirkani were also present on the occasion.
Dr Baloch said political awareness, understanding of national rights and intellectual guidance for the younger generation in Balochistan were the result of the contributions made by veteran political leaders, writers and journalists.
He said the media — whether print or electronic — had always played an important role in highlighting national issues, protecting public rights and promoting political awareness.
The National Party leader rejected the recent cabinet decision regarding print media and demanded its immediate withdrawal. He also assured the journalist community of full cooperation.
Criticising the rulers, Dr Baloch said Balochistan had been turned into a “testing ground” in every matter, worsening the province’s overall situation.
Earlier, the delegation briefed him on the cabinet decision concerning print media and its possible implications.
