Quetta: A powerful explosion at Quetta Railway Station claimed the lives of at least 25 people and left dozens more injured. The explosion occurred on the platform just as the Jaffer Express, a train bound for Peshawar, was set to depart at 9:00 AM.
According to police reports, law enforcement agencies and rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene. Emergency services at the Civil Hospital Quetta were put on high alert, receiving 46 injured victims, many of whom are in critical condition.
Initial investigations suggest that the blast may have been a suicide bombing. Senior police officer SSP Operations Mohammad Baloch confirmed that the explosion occurred when a large number of passengers were gathered on the platform.
In response to the incident, the Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, condemned the attack, calling it an act of terror targeting innocent civilians. He ordered a thorough investigation into the blast.
The spokesperson for the Balochistan government, Shahid Rand, and the Provincial Minister for Health, Bakht Kakar, spoke to the media, stating that the explosion appears to have been a suicide bombing. The Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Quetta also confirmed in their media statements that the blast at Quetta Railway Station was a suicide attack. They added that the terrorist did not enter through the security walkthrough gates but instead used the station’s open entry points.
