Pakistani Ministers in China for Talks on Upgrading Coal Power Plants

According to sources, Finance Minister Mohammad Aurangzeb and Energy Minister Owais Lagari are currently on a visit to China, where discussions have made progress regarding imported coal power plants.
In Pakistan, three coal-fired power plants are generating some of the most expensive electricity. These include the 1320 MW Sahiwal Coal Power Plant, the 1320 MW Hub Power Plant, and the 1320 MW Port Qasim Power Plant.
During the visit, the Chinese authorities have responded positively to proposals for the reprofiling of these three coal power plants. Additionally, a framework for advancing matters related to the imported coal power plants has been established.
The Chinese officials have also assured the Pakistani delegation of full support regarding the Panda Bonds issue. Ongoing meetings between Pakistani and Chinese officials will continue to focus on the conversion and reprofiling of the three coal power plants.
