LAHORE – Wohaib Football Club has played an outstanding and unforgettable role in promoting football in Pakistan, nurturing young talent and strengthening the sport at grassroots level, former and senior international players said at a meeting held in connection with the club. Muhammad Riaz, Mian Mahmood, Bilal Butt, Arif Iqbal, Aamir Mahmood, Tanveer-ul-Hussnain, Zia Sabtain, Aamir Nadeem and others highlighted the club’s decades-long contribution, saying it had trained and introduced thousands of talented footballers, many of whom went on to represent Pakistan at national and international levels.
A large number of former and current players attended the meeting, which focused on the prevailing state of grassroots football, measures to encourage emerging players and a future strategy for developing the sport. The participants paid rich tribute to Wohaib Club founder and renowned football leader, the late Hafiz Salman Butt, acknowledging his exceptional contribution to the promotion of the game and development of young players.
They said Butt’s vision, dedication and passion for football provided countless youngsters with opportunities to showcase their talent, with many eventually earning national and international recognition. The participants said his services would always be remembered and that the football culture and legacy established by him would continue to inspire future generations. Former internationals Iftikhar Shatta, Amjad Zakaria, Zahid Luqman, Nadeem Butt, Ubaid Tariq, Rauf Bari and Muhammad Amjad, along with numerous former and current players, also attended. The meeting concluded with Hassan Butt thanking the participants for their presence and continued commitment to preserving and advancing the legacy of Wohaib Club.
