ISLAMABAD: Mohsin Naqvi on Friday said foolproof security arrangements were being provided to American companies working on the Reko Diq project to ensure a safe and effective investment environment.

The remarks came during a meeting between the interior minister and Paul Kapur in Islamabad, where both sides discussed Pakistan-US bilateral relations, regional developments and cooperation in security-related sectors.

Acting US Ambassador Natalie Baker, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and the federal interior secretary also attended the meeting.

According to officials, the two sides agreed to further expand cooperation in the fields of security, counterterrorism and anti-narcotics efforts.

Mr Naqvi said ties between Pakistan and the United States had strengthened during the tenure of President Donald Trump and were based on mutual trust and bilateral cooperation.

The interior minister also expressed hope for the early resumption of direct flights between Pakistan and the United States, saying the move would help strengthen people-to-people and commercial links between the two countries.

Referring to the situation in the Middle East, Mr Naqvi expressed optimism that ongoing conflicts in the region would be resolved through peaceful and lasting solutions.

During the meeting, Mr Kapur appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting peace and stability in the region and reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Islamabad in multiple sectors.
